The Village Board authorized design services for Phase 1 of Discovery Park, thus entering into contracts with Hitchcock Design Group and Robinson Engineering for the new 31-acre park located on the southwest side of Romeoville near Weber and Airport Road.
Phase 1 of the project includes one Soccer field, an expandable parking lot, sand volleyball courts, an interpretive trail system with overlook, basketball courts, bean bag toss games, and extension of Highpoint Drive and storm water detention area. “This park site will eventually serve as the primary community park for residents of this area where they can enjoy additional passive and educational opportunities as well,” said Kelly Rajzer, Director of Recreation.
Earlier this year, the Village of Romeoville was awarded an OSLAD grant for Phase 1 of the Discovery Park Master Plan. The grant is through the State of Illinois Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development grant program. The OSLAD grant is currently on hold by the State of Illinois. The Village has budgeted $125,000 in this year’s budget to begin design services. “We are very excited to start the design services on this project. Once completed, this will be a great community amenity for all ages,” said Mayor Noak.
